This trekking will give you a stunning overview of the authentic communities, while being surrounded by the impressive mountains, lakes and landscapes of the valley. This walk has been organized for those who want to wander off the beaten track while seeing the Machu Picchu.
Day 1: Cusco – Lares – Huaca Huasi
During the first day, we will take the bus to the Calca village, where the thermal springs of Lares will be waiting for us. After lunch, we will start an enjoyable hike through the Trapiche River Valley, until we reach the village of Huaca Huasi (3,600 msn), located on a high plateau, where we will camp.
Day 2: Huacahuasi – Patacancha
We will start uphill, walking through an open landscape, devoid of trees, at an altitude of 4,500 m, in order to go through the Ipsayccasa pass. This pass offers magnificent views of the Monte Verónica (5,750 m). Then, we will go down the Ipsay lagoon, where it is not rare to see Andean geese, Puna Ibis and other waterbirds in the wetlands. We will also watch two-colored seeds of the jungle (white and red), called ‘huayruros’, and of similar color to the village dresses. This is how we will arrive at Patacancha, a community well-know for its textile, within which we will spend the night.
Day 3: Patacancha – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes
Very early in the morning, we will start our hike to Pallata, where we will see the Inca ruins of the Inca site of Pumamarca (the city of Puma). We will then arrive in Ollantaytambo, from where we will take the train to Aguas Calientes. Night.
Day 4: From Aguas Calientes to Cusco
Very early in the morning, after having breakfast in the hotel, we will take a touristic bus to the Machupicchu. The guided visit will last from 2 to 3 hours, with a few hours of free time for you to explore the site and take pictures. We will come down at about 1 p.m. to have lunch and then take the train back to Ollantaytambo. In the afternoon, when we arrive at the village, we will take a private bus to Cusco.
